Outdoor wood

Outdoor spaces you’ll actually use

Decks and fences take more abuse than any other painted surface on a home: full sun, standing water, salt air and freeze-thaw all winter. Without protection, wood grays, splinters and starts to rot.

Every job starts with a proper clean so stain can soak in, then loose or rotted boards and railings are repaired by our own crew. We finish with a stain or coating matched to the wood and how you use the space, and we’ll tell you honestly whether stain or paint makes more sense.

Frequently asked questions

Deck & fence questions

Should my deck be stained or painted?

It depends on the wood and what’s on it now. Stain soaks in and wears gradually, while paint forms a film that can peel on walking surfaces. We’ll look at your deck and recommend the option that will last.

How often should a deck be restained?

Most decks in coastal New England need attention every few years, sooner on south-facing or waterfront decks that get full sun and salt.

Can you fix rotted boards?

Yes. Our crew repairs or replaces loose and rotted boards and railings before we stain, and any repairs are priced in your written estimate.

When is the best time to stain a deck?

Late spring through early fall, when the wood is dry and temperatures are mild. We schedule around rain so the finish can soak in and cure.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Furty Painting is licensed and fully insured in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. We’re happy to send a certificate of insurance with your estimate.
